Aquaponics Plants

Best plants to cultivate in aquaponics

There are many edible or non-edible plants that are considered the best plants to cultivate in aquaponics. The reason is that they thrive, providing an exceptionally high yield. There are ongoing experiments on a global scale, growing a variety of edible plants, fruit trees and even decorative flowers.

About Plants in Aquaponics

What makes plants in aquaponics thrive is the ideal structure of the system in which they grow. The whole idea of an aquaponic system is to make sure that plants grow quickly and are healthy, tasty and full of nutrients.

This is exactly what such a system achieves. Plants that can be cultivated in an aquaponics system are: lettuce, chard, spring onions, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, several aromatic herbs (parsley, basil …), tomatoes, cucumbers and so many others.

Attempts have been made over the past years to grow trees (lemon trees, orange trees…) in a specifically modified aquaponics greenhouse that will enable the trees to reach their optimum height. These attempts have been successful, so far and scientists are broadening their selection to add more types of fruit-baring trees.
