Just the term Indoor Aquaponics Farm is enough to make people ask questions. It is not the word “farm”, everyone knows what that is, but the “indoor aquaponics” that probably draws more interest.
Plainly put, it is a synthesis of hydroponics and aquaculture housed in an indoor area that can be a massive series of or small greenhouse, an apartment, or home.
The indoor side of things simply means that it is somehow protected from the elements; aquaponics means that it is a mix of plants and fish, and the farm means that it can be made to yield very big quantities of food.
This is not an alien concept since most people already know that hydroponics does all this except for the fish.
So why the fish?
Simple…, fish poop is among the best fertilizers available today, and by feeding the fish good fish food the fish, in turn, feed their waste to the plants in a natural cycle. The end product is food that has no chemicals or hormones, as opposed to the heavily laden with such hydroponics products.
The practice of hydroponics produces huge quantities of food, but it does so by adding chemicals and hormones to the water to make the plants grow quickly. Once this has been done over several cycles, the water is too heavily laden with these products and it becomes a problem for the plants so it gets vented into the environment causing havoc to it.
Indoor aquaponics farms are quite different in that they cannot use chemicals or hormones because each taints the system. So they rely on fish waste in the water the fish live in. the water is then siphoned off to the plants which use it to grow cleaning the water in the process. Any solid waste falls to the bottom of the fish tanks where it is siphoned off to be sold or used for other purposes.
The water stays clean and is never vented, the fish are well-fed and happy till they get selected for food, the plants are tasty because they are fed natural manure and people are happy because they get to eat healthy food without chemicals and hormones.
